Micah Lorenzen led the Falcon Men’s cross country team on Saturday, Nov. 10, placing 8th individually at the talent-laden NCAA DIII Midwest Regional Championships. Lorenzen ran his best time ever and secured himself a place at next week’s National Championship race hosted by St. Olaf College. Lorenzen looks to improve on his 32nd place Coaches All-American finish that he captured at last year’s National meet.
The Falcon team placed 22nd amongst one of the most competitive regions in the nation. Six out of the seven men who raced ran their best times ever. Eric Locke finished 2nd on the team, followed by Tyler Biederwolf, Richard Thompson, Chris Strehlow, Will Uffenbeck and Steve Paavola.

"These men had to prove themselves worthy of the chance to race at Regionals by running strong all season. A highlight on the team was that Uffenbeck was able to run a season-best time on Saturday after battling back from mono and strep throat that took him out early in the season," said Coach Russ De Lap.

CUW's Lisa Dillett places 40th and sets a huge personal record!
Senior Lisa Dillett led the Falcon women, placing 40th, and smashing her oldpersonal best time that she set as a freshman. Lisa was the first runner from the Northern Athletics Conference to cross the finish line. Six out of the seven women also set personal best times. Ashley Vana was the 2nd CUW racer to cross the line, followed by Lindsay Wayne, Amanda Hobus, Emily Tuthill, Emily Lasee and Emily Biederwolf. The women placed 20th out of 37 teams, one place higher than last year.
Several teammates who were not a part of the top 7 runners came out in full force to show how great Concordia cross country can be. In temperatures hovering around 40 degrees, several Falcons donned body paint and running shorts to cheer on their teammates. Freddy the Falcon also made an appearance at the event, wearing running shoes, none the less!

Micah Lorenzen Wins
Women's Results
The Falcon women won the Northern Athletics Conference team championship this weekend. Concordia Chicago hosted the race, which was held at Schiller Woods Park in Chicago. The women placed 4 runners in the top 10, scoring 33 points less than the 2nd place team, Aurora University. After last year’s runner-up finish to Aurora with a heart-breaking tie, only decided by the 6th runner, the women came out with a vengeance and dominated the field. Every single woman on the team ran either a season best time or an all-time personal best. Many coaches from other NAC schools commented on how strong the women’s team raced at the meet.
The women were led by Lisa Dillett’s 2nd place finish with a time of 23:42. Lisa was named to the All-Conference team, as well as teammates Amanda Hobus 6th place, Ashley Vana 7th place, and Lindsay Wayne 9th place. All-Conference Honorable Mention runners for the women were Emily Lasee 23rd place, Emily Tuthill 24th place, and Emily Biederwolf 28th place.

Men's Results
Micah Lorenzen is the 2007 NAC Champion. Micah finished the race with a time of 25:32, finishing 34 seconds in front of the next competitor, and giving him the NAC title for the 2nd year in a row. The Falcon men captured an impressive 2nd place team finish, only falling behind MSOE, who had won 9 straight consecutive conference championships before sitting last year out. Several men ran incredible races to make 2nd place a reality, with many quality teams vying for that position. Six CUW men ran under 30:00 helping CUW beat the next team by 7 points. Eric Locke was the second finisher for the Falcons, placing 12th with a time of 28:28. Both Micah and Eric earned All-Conference team awards. Honorable Mention award went to Chris Strehlow 16th place, Tyler Biederwolf 25th place, and Richard Thompson 26th place. Steve Paavola and Will Uffenbeck rounded out the top 7 Concordia men.
Both teams will continue to work hard as they prepare for the Midwest Regional Championships that are held in Winneconne WI on November 10th. The top 7 Concordia men and women runners will race for a chance to compete at the NCAA DIII National Championships held on November 17th by St Olaf College.

The Concordia cross country team had one of its best races of the season on Saturday. Concordia hosted the Wisconsin Private College Championships and the Falcons took advantage of the opportunity to race once again on their home course and 18 runners ran their fastest times ever.
Lisa Dillett led the women with a third place finish of 19:42 and collected a First Team All-State award. Ashley Vana and Amanda Hobus each ran huge personal best times to place 17th and 19th respectively. They also garnered Third Team All-State awards. Rounding out the top five were Lindsay Wayne and Emily Tuthill, who both set personal records on the 5k course. Other Falcons to run PR times were Emily Lasee, Samantha Gries, Kelsey Kiesow, Anna Holman, Rachel Schumacher, and Katie Kindinger. The team placed 3rd of 16 teams, finishing behind Carthage College and Beloit College. The women beat all of the Wisconsin NAC schools.
Micah Lorenzen dominated the home course and the competition, finishing in 1st place and taking home the Private College Champion plaque. His time of 25:17.2 over 8k was only 9 seconds off of his best time ever. Eric Locke easily ran the best race of his career on Saturday. He set a new PR of 27:50.7 and was awarded a Third Team All-State medal for his 18th place finish.
Chris Strehlow, Steve Paavola, and Zach Graudin were the next three Falcons to cross the line and add into the team scoring. Chris and Steve set personal record times of 28:33 and 29:51 respectively. Zach Graudin set a season best time and finished faster and stronger than he has in weeks since a lower leg injury stole some of his fitness earlier this season.
Karl Luedtke, Josh Weber, David Uffenbeck and Paul Muther each set new personal best times. The team finished 6th out of 13 very competitive teams.

Ripon Invitational
A portion of the Falcon CC team raced in Ripon on Saturday. A challenging first mile took a lot of strength from the runner's legs while the heat also took its toll.
Katie Horner led the women's team with a time of 25:16.84 which put her in 34th place in the 5k race. The top five in the race for the Falcons also included Samantha Gries, Katie Boudro, Kelsey Kiesow, and Rachel Schumacher.
Tyler Biederwolf was the fastest CUW male competitor, finishing the 8k course in a time of 33:16.97, well off his personal best time. Rounding out the top five were Zach Graudin, Caleb Schewe, David Uffenbeck, and Josh Weber.

While the top CUW runners sat the race out, the team looks to join forces this coming weekend as they race for the title of Wisconsin Private School Champions. This meet is hosted by Concordia and is run around campus on their home course. The team would appreciate the support of the student body, faculty, and staff on Saturday October 13th.
The women's 5k race begins at 11:00am with the men's 8k race following at noon. The race will start on the south end of campus on the practice soccer field and finishes behind Wittenberg dorm.

Roy Griak Invite
Micah Lorenzen finished 13th out of 367 runners at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday. He ran among the top competitors in NCAA Division III cross country and made it to the award stand for the 2nd year in a row. The next 3 Falcon men, Eric Locke, Richard Thompson, and Chris Strehlow, finished strong in a close group, finishing all within 20 seconds of each other. The team is building momentum as they set their sights on running down the conference title later on this season.
Lisa Dillett was the first Lady Falcon to cross the line at the Griak Invite in St. Paul Minnesota. Her time of 25:09.10 is over a minute and 20 seconds faster than her time on the same course last season. The course at Les Bolstad golf course is challenging, made up of rolling hills and sharp turns. Despite the hardships on the course two Falcon women ran personal best times for CUW. Freshmen Beth Gleason and Kelsey Kiesow each took 40 seconds off of their previous best times. The women are running well on tired legs at this point in the season. Look for great races to come as the “Championship series” of races approach, beginning at home on CUW’s campus as the team hosts the Wisconsin Private College Championships on October 13th, beginning at 11:00 am.
